A perfectly good record — complete with poppy hooks, crystalline guitar bridges and crisp production — but is this what we’ve come to expect from one of the most lauded experimental rock outfits of our day?
Instead of injecting SY with avant-garde vigor, Gastr del Sol alum Jim O’Rourke seems to be transforming them into their imitators: nailing the posture, missing the pulse.
The tried-and-true will devour this (for good reason) but the unitiated may want to consult earlier classics.
