REVIEW: The Patient/Breathers – “Extension” b/w “Colony Of Taste”

Elephant 6, indeed.

Athens, Ga. groups The Patient and Breathers do their respective idioms some justice on a too-short, split 7-inch single out last week on Chunklet Industries and Third Uncle Records.

Elephant 6 luminaries Robert Schneider and W. Cullen Hart, posed here for their first release as The Patient, echo Elf Power and even Neutral Milk Hotel circa Everything Is – maybe even a little David Byrne, with a five-o-clock shadow – while Breathers go the electro-pop route with the 80s-sweet “Colony of Taste.” Both tracks are sonically daring and compelling, pretty ambitious stuff for non-LP offerings.

And, yes, The Patient track is worth putting up there alongside your Apples In Stereo collection.
